Free Google Maps rank checker

Check where a business ranks on Google Maps for any search, from 49 spots around it. Green means top 3, red means nobody nearby will find it. No signup.

One free check per business, one keyword, kept for good. No signup, no email. 49 real Google Maps searches, about 40 seconds.

Why a single position check is not enough

Google Maps does not have one ranking for a business. It has a different ranking for every place a search is made from. A dentist can be first for people in the town centre and invisible for people three miles out, and a rank checker that reports “position 4” is only telling you what Google showed from one spot, usually a data centre.

A grid check asks the same question from 49 points across the area a local business actually serves. The result is a map you can read in two seconds: where the business wins, where it loses, and how far its reach extends. It is also the format clients understand without an explanation, which is why every LocalPulse report is built around it.

How to read the grid

The business sits in the centre square. Each other square is a search made about 0.8 km further out. A number is the position in Google Maps for that search from that spot. Green squares (1 to 3) are inside the map pack, the three results shown on Google itself. Amber (4 to 10) is a scroll away. Red (11 to 20) and grey (not in the top 20) mean a customer standing there will not find the business without searching for it by name.

Under the grid you see the three businesses taking the top spots most often. Those are the competitors to look at first: usually a better primary category, more recent reviews, or a profile that simply describes the service more clearly.

Track it every month, under your own brand

This page runs one keyword, once. Agencies use LocalPulse to run the same grid for up to 10 keywords per client every month, on a street map, with this month next to last month, organic rankings, AI search visibility and a plain-English summary, all in a report that carries the agency’s logo and nothing of ours. £15 per client property per month, flat.

Questions

Why does the ranking change from square to square?

Google Maps results depend on where the searcher is standing. A plumber can be number 1 for someone two streets away and number 14 for someone at the other end of town. One position check hides that; a grid shows it.

How is the check done?

We run 49 real Google Maps searches for your phrase, each one located at a different point on a 5 km grid with the business at the centre, and record the position of the business in each result. It takes about 40 seconds.

Why is my business not found?

The check matches the business name as it appears on Google Maps. Type the name exactly as Google shows it, with the town. If it is still not found in any square, the business does not appear in the top 20 for that search anywhere on the grid.

How often can I check?

Each business gets one free check, for one keyword, and the result is kept so anyone can see it later with the date it was made. Rankings move every week, so a check from last month may no longer be the picture; that is what the monthly report is for. Each visitor can run one new check a day. Every check costs us 49 paid searches, which is what keeps the tool free.

Is this the same as the local rank tracker in LocalPulse?

It is the same scan. The report adds the street map behind the grid, this month against last month, organic rankings, AI search visibility on ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews, an executive summary and a fix plan, all under your agency's logo, for £15 per client property per month.
